On January 25, 2017, OSCG invited Zita Cobb to Osgoode Hall Law School to provide a guest lecture on her achievements and ideas in philanthropy and social entrepreneurism.

Zita Cobb is co-founder and CEO of the Shorefast Foundation, a registered Canadian charity, and founder and innkeeper of the Fogo Island Inn. Zita grew up on Fogo Island and went on to a career as a senior finance professional in the high technology industry. She is best known for her work with JDS Uniphase, where she contributed to building the company into one of the world’s most successful high-tech innovators. In 2001, Zita left the industry to dedicate her energies to philanthropic work. She founded the Shorefast Foundation, a social enterprise that uses business-minded means to achieve social ends. Shorefast’s most significant project to date is the award-winning Fogo Island Inn, which reinvests all of its surpluses in the local Fogo Island community and has contributed to its economic and social revitalization. In 2016, Zita was awarded the Order of Canada in acknowledgement of the work of the Shorefast Foundation.

We hope everyone enjoyed hearing from Zita Cobb on her remarkable business career and her unique approach to social entrepreneurship. Please look forward to more exciting OSCG events in the future!
